Pelvic Health Level 3: Pelvic Pain Disorders

Course Description

This advanced-level pelvic health course is designed for experienced rehabilitation professionals seeking to refine their expertise in the assessment and treatment of complex pelvic pain disorders.

Target Audience: Physical Therapists (PTs), Occupational Therapists (OTs), Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) and Occupational Therapist Assistants (COTAs) with a foundational understanding of pelvic health.

Prerequisites: Successful completion of Pelvic Level I and the Pelvic Health Online Functional Anatomy courses is mandatory.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of this intensive program, participants will be able to:

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations: Perform detailed examinations of the pelvic girdle, pelvic floor, abdomen, and coccyx, integrating musculoskeletal, neurological, dermatological, and other relevant systems.  

  • Master differential diagnosis: Confidently differentiate between various pelvic pain diagnoses, including those with overlapping symptoms and multi-system involvement.

  • Apply advanced manual therapy techniques: Demonstrate proficiency in a range of manual therapy interventions, including:

    • Pelvic girdle joint mobilization

    • Connective tissue mobilization

    • Myofascial release

    • Trigger point release

    • Visceral mobilization (if applicable based on licensure)

  • Develop individualized treatment plans: Formulate evidence-based treatment plans incorporating:

    • Therapeutic exercise

    • Neuromuscular re-education

    • Behavioral strategies

    • Pain science education

    • Functional training

  • Address complex presentations: Effectively manage patients with:

    • Hypertonic pelvic floor dysfunction

    • Pelvic organ prolapse

    • Bowel and bladder dysfunction  

    • Persistent pain conditions

    • Post-surgical rehabilitation needs  

  • Integrate current research: Critically analyze and apply the latest research findings in pelvic health to inform clinical decision-making.

  • Optimize patient outcomes: Utilize validated outcome measures to track progress and ensure effective treatment strategies.

  • Navigate professional considerations: Understand ethical and legal considerations, documentation best practices, and billing/coding guidelines specific to pelvic health.
